Rangers?! We have issues!

As it seems Ranger have many issues that need to be addressed in order to make the class competitive and useful. Up to now my 41 levels I have not met any fight that it is not changeling for me. On every duel or oPvP I have to give 120% of my class in order to perform moderate. I have locate some of the big weaknesses of this class that need to be addressed

One of our problems is the Self buffs that we have to cast every one minute. Strong Shot and Dodging can be mana drainer skills for us, if you want to keep them up. The mana cost of those spells is balanced but the duration is very small. All our buffs have their duration by 100%. 120 sec duration of a buff with same mana cost will give a relief to our mana draining class.

Another huge problem that has HUGE impact to our PVP game play are the long Cooldowns of our skills. How many times it has happened to you while pvping a player and for 2-4 second you need to auto attack. In a game like Aion, that 90% of the classes have a snare effect, we can be called Kitters. It is fairly easy for an SM to Kite as much as effective as a Ranger. Do you call the SM “Kitter”? of course not.

Let’s assume that up to level 41 a character has the following shots:

Entangling shot 12 seconds

Swift Shot 8 seconds

Arrow Strike 6 seconds Chain from Swift Shot

Spiral Arrow 4 seconds Proc from Arrow Strike

Poison Arrow 24 seconds Chain from Swift Shot

Flesh cutter arrow 24 Seconds Chain from Swift Shot

Stunning shot 12 seconds

Rupture Arrow 24 seconds

Arrow Storm 30 seconds

Silence Arrow 18 seconds.

An optimum Rotation according to Cool down and Effectiveness would be:

1) Entangling shot 12sec

2) Swift Shot 8 sec >>

3) Flesh cutter arrow 24 Seconds to apply the 10% armor debuff so the following shot will hit harder.

4) Stunning shot 12 seconds

5) Rupture Arrow 24 seconds

6) Silence Arrow 18 second and last

7) Arrow Storm 30 seconds.

Assuming that for each spell you spent 1 second to cast it (if you do not want to jump shot and cast each per second)

1 seconds x 7 skills = 7 second for full rotation. What does it means now?

Once you cast ALL your spells up to number 7 you MUST wait 3 seconds to recast his skills. If you do not get it I will perform 2 rotations for you and make it clear.

1) Entangling shot 12sec ( IN CD )

2) Swift Shot 8 sec ( IN CD )

3) Flesh cutter arrow 24 Seconds ( IN CD )

4) Stunning shot 12 seconds ( IN CD )

5) Rupture Arrow 24 seconds ( IN CD )

6) Silence Arrow 18 second (STIGMA) ( IN CD )

7) Arrow Storm 30 seconds ( IN CD )

8) Entangling shot 12sec ( IN CD )

9) Swift Shot 8 sec O U T O F CD

10) Poison Arrow 24 Seconds Since Flesh cutter is on CD

11) Stunning shot 12 seconds

12) Rupture Arrow 24 seconds

13) Silence Arrow 18 second (STIGMA)

14) Arrow Storm 30 seconds.

Now notice that after step 7 is down you jump to step 9… after step you need to wait step 8 to come out of CD which means 3 seconds of AUTOSHOTS

Can you imagine what dps lose are those 3 seconds especially on PVP. I have not yet met any class in Aion that suffer such dps lose due to its bad designing.

Now is that the only problem that a ranger has? In my opinion is not, there are many other that we have to address, Since effectively we proved that for 3 seconds we lose dps while other classes sustain their dps its time to see how our damage works.

A ranger is very gear depended class. 90% of our damage depends on “WEAPON” we can easily prove that by doing some mathematics.

I am going to use my Ranger for stat values. I use the weapon <Hannet’s Longbow>

Min Dmg is 149 and Max Dmg is 203

So the Weapon Damage is (203+149)/2=176. That does not include the Advanced Archery Mastery of your current level. Since my Ranger is 40 level I have AAM level 3 which is 10. So now the total number is 186. The tooltip thought says 191. The extra 5 are calculated from the Belt.

Now let’s see how it works with skills. I selected the Entangling Shot with skill damage from 170-174. Using the lowest Value of the Skill we see that if we add on that the weapon damage without any attack from gems or gear we get the exact same number as the tooltip.

Min. Skill Base Damage + Weapon Damage (with AAM) = Tooltip Damage.

170+186=356. Tooltip says 357 maximum. We are in range of the tooltip.

What is happening thought to the +5 Attack from my Belt? Doesn’t my Gear contributes to my Attack overall?

Well, it seems that the Attack from the gear and gems are affecting the Damage after numbers from tooltip and since 1 damage – 1 Attack that “5” from belt is just showing when I damage an target.

As I have understood, the attack contribution is by far less effective for a ranger than it should be. The Attack is not increasing in such ways our damage, as it does the Magic Boost for a Sorcerer or any Caster.

What needs to be done in order to fix those problems? A lot of work is needed, most (80%) believe that rangers are not a class with problems but we have a lot that are affecting our game play.

We are so called “Kitters” but we also can be called as “Dps – Stop – DPS” class. That black out of 3 second no DPS in PvP can be proved very dangerous when fighting Pure DPS Classes like us.

Skill that need to be fixed are

1) Poison Arrow reduce the dmg done from the poison debuff by 30% but also reduce the Cooldown of the skill from 24 second to 16 seconds.

2) Design on more skill that will be acquired at lower levels and will have 10 second CD dealing similar damage to Swift Shot.

3) Reduce the Sleep Arrow from 3minutes CD to 2m CD

4) Modify the Auto shot in such ways that the contribution of Attack will be added on the overall damage.

5) Adjust the Autoshot to fire with every Spell, so we can stop doing the following Autoattack..Skill Autoattack…skill… Tests on melee classes show that their Autoattack can be triggered by Skills

6) Fix the RNG from Rupture Shot and Stun Shot.

To conclude, Rangers have issues like most classes. I have not play other Classes but Ranger. Those Issue can be frustrating when you pvp. And since this is a pvp game anything that does not work as it should is consider as broken. While other classes can chain use their Skills to maximize their Damage done, a ranger has to wait 3 second and cast Autoattack. That is UNACCEPTABLE.
